We did it! Read The Room magazine is off the ground, we have lift off, Houston, we do not have a problem… anymore.

We did initially have a bit of a problem in that our main big feature hit a little snag, we needed to wait and get the green light from a few folks in TV land. This was actually a blessing in disguise because we’ve managed to secure a few more tasty interviews in the meantime. We’ve alluded to what the topic of the special feature is about on our socials but I won’t spoil it for you.
So, here we are! Our first issue! Everything you see here today is more like a taster of what to expect our future issues to feature but I’m still really excited and super proud of all the work the RTR team have created. Right then, let’s show you around!
RTR staff member, Thomas, headed to a special screening of the first episode of Time Series 2 at BFI Southbank in London last month, the event also featured a Q&A with some of the cast, writers and crew. As well as covering the event, Thomas had the opportunity to speak with co-writer Helen Black and ask her a few extra questions! Check out his feature here!
Smashing out some excellent reviews we have Beatrice with their coverage of the Women X Film Festival. On the music front, Hazel talks us through the bonus tracks of the recent deluxe edition album release of ‘The Good Witch’ by Maisie Peters.
Sticking to a music theme, Read The Room’s Céline kindly allows us to republish her incredible account of meeting Jeff Buckley as we mark the anniversary of Jeff’s birth. A beautiful and personal read. While this isn’t necessarily in keeping with the themes of the magazine - women, LGBTQIA+, marginalised voices - publishing the experiences of our staff, who are part of those communities, and what’s important to them, is still very much in keeping with our ethos.
I’m very pleased to introduce a few recurring features that will appear in each issue. Candice provides us with some of her favourite arts and culture recommendations via our ‘RTR Recommends Vol.1’ segment. Co-editor Helena prizes open the trailer door and offers some amazing insight into the behind-the-scenes world of television in her feature ‘A PA in the life’.
Finally, I have a lovely chat with folk musician, artist and dear friend, Rachel Taylor-Beales who tells me about her musical roots, what inspires her and how she dipped into the world of theatre.
To our team of beautiful contributors: thank you for donating so much of your time to help get this wee project off the ground. We couldn’t have done this without you.
To our readers: I hope you enjoy delving into our first issue of Read The Room magazine. We’ve got lots planned, I can’t wait to share it with you all.
